Day four

I made a paper cut-out of boat-guy and painted him dark (venetian red mixed with deep green) I'm sticking him here and there on the lake to see where he might fit in best. There are two birds sitting on the fishing skiff and a basket for fish. I've added an updated photo of the Karst hills of Guilin [the glaciers never got this far south to smooth things out].

Day 2 - I am now using acrylic versus watercolor. I cannot do without some color. Will limit to four colors: Raw sienna, Raw umber, Venetian red and Hooker's green. I'll try to keep the feeling of an old photo (perhaps one that was tinted with some color). I am not used to painting on an easel versus a flat desk so I have to be careful that the paint doesn't run, although I let it run a bit on the hills for effect.
Time: Shopping at Lowe's for masonite 30M
Three layers of Gesso: One hour
Watercolor base: 30M
Day two acrylic: 30M
[visa card - timeless]
Day 3 - added some shadows A silver frame will be painted and several inches of inset allowed

new project. Philomena has several large (Ikea) photos on her office wall AND a remaining empty space. An artist wants to fill an empty space. So I got a 3 x 4 foot masonite piece (Lowe's) and tripled layered it with Gesso and sketched out (in reverse of the other pieces for variety and symmetry) a similar scene (see photo of one of the wall hangings). This will be acrylic but we need to establish a background degree of darkness/contrast and I have always wanted to really use some Van Dyke Brown water color - so I sketched in a bit with charcoal and provided a layer of Van Dyke watercolor brown to set the tone and get going on this. Wish me luck on this new project (pronounced like "target"). I know you don't see much yet but it is coming into view in my mind and will materialize further. Keep in mind what Mario Cooper used to say - what's the hurry - after all it's a work of art.

Larger Sized Mts meet the sea 3 feet x 4 feet Inquire

The deep cerulean blue sky does not photograph well. Acrylic 3 feet x 4 feet on masonite. I have decided to add some clouds and a sailing craft for added perspective and play with the mts a bit more. I handcrafted the back bracing which makes it a little heavier but is sturdy for handling and hanging. It will be given a matte finish and signed.
